Getting Started
The admission process varies depending on whether you're applying to government schools or international schools.
Admissions Exercise for International Students (AEIS) is held in September. Supplementary AEIS (S-AEIS) is held in February.
Centralised test in English and Mathematics. Results determine eligibility for government school placement.
MOE will place successful candidates based on vacancies. You cannot choose the school.
Once offered a place, apply for a Student Pass through ICA.
Note: Primary 1 (age 7) does not require AEIS. International students can apply directly through MOE during the P1 Registration Exercise (Phase 3).
Consider curriculum, location, fees, and culture. Book campus tours (many offer virtual tours).
Complete application forms, provide school reports, and pay application fees (typically S$500-2,000).
Most schools require assessments in English and Math. Some conduct parent and student interviews.
Pay registration and deposit fees. School will provide letter for Student Pass application.
Tip: Popular schools have long waitlists. Apply 6-12 months in advance. Some schools have limited spaces for certain nationalities.
Will this curriculum work if you relocate again? Does it align with your child's university goals?
Is the school near your home? Does it offer bus services to your neighbourhood?
Factor in tuition, registration fees, uniforms, books, activities, and transport.
Does the school offer support for learning differences, ESL, or gifted programmes?
Visit the campus, talk to current parents, and assess if the environment suits your child.
What sports, arts, and enrichment programmes are available?
